Today I’m sharing with you how to make a galaxy print for a lovely home decor statement! Wherever I am, no matter how I feel, it’s such a lovely blessing to be able to look at the stars (or sometimes just the fog) and be reminded of how small I am in this big world! And with this combined with my love for puns, I wanted to make a punny galaxy home decor print. Here’s how I did it!
What you’ll need:
- Milky Way photo (I downloaded this one from www.unsplash.com by searching “galaxy”)
- Hand lettering
- Illustrator
- Photoshop
Step 1: Draw out what you’d like to hand letter in Illustrator. If you prefer marker and paper, you should create thicker, clean lines to make it as easy as possible to digitize in Illustrator. To vectorize something more easily, just use one color (preferably black) so that you can…
Step 2: Scan the image into Photoshop! Increase the contrast so that the paper is as white as possible, and the ink is as dark as possible. Save the image and open it in Illustrator, and vectorize per usual.
Step 3: Save the file in Illustrator when you’re pleased with the final product, and import the image into Photoshop. Open the galaxy image into the same working file as the hand lettered piece.
Step 4: Make sure that the galaxy image layer is above the text, and right click the layer so that you can choose the “Create a Clipping Mask” option. And voila! You’ll have a galaxy print wherever the image is over the text.
Here is the final print I created! If you want to purchase it as a digital download, it’s available for $5 over at my shop!
